It tells the story of her mother stitching a coat for her out of rags, and though she was teased for wearing it, she felt rich in the love it represented. Parton has often cited it as her personal favorite of all her compositions.

I have created this version of Dolly Parton's coat of many colors using tumbled stained glass, using through the pain Studios signature tumbled glass. I chose this version of glass versus non-tumbled as it depicts sort of a dull, flat, matte version of glass and I think that's representative of the patchwork of Dolly's coat. They wouldn't have used new material to make this coat so the flat tumbled version represents old clothes, and Dolly loved the coat and she was proud of it. When the sun catcher is put in light - the brightness of the sunlight shines through and that represents Dolly Parton shining through wearing the coat.
